FEG supports Silvery Tweed Cereals in creation of new seed cleaning plant
We are delighted to have supported our client Silvery Tweed Cereals in the design and installation of a new seed cleaning plant at its Berwick-Upon-Tweed headquarters.
A leading supplier to the UK breakfast cereal, bread and bakery markets, our client required a sustainable and effective solution to segregate products containing allergens within its grain cleaning and processing production environment.
The installation of the seed cleaning plant comes as part of ongoing £600,000 business investment into allergen product segregation, with the business having already invested in a 12,000sq ft warehouse with a dedicated Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) for forklift access and the loading/unloading of vehicles, as well as pedestrian access and changing facilities.
The creation of the dedicated, allergen-free seed cleaning plant on site has allowed the business to process an even wider range of ingredients for its customers and compact the supply chain by reducing the need to transport uncleaned seeds to a specialist facility.
Robert Gladstone, Managing Director at Silvery Tweed Cereals, commented, “This project has been a few years in the planning, and it is incredibly satisfying to see the facility fully operational. We are always looking at ways in which we can improve and develop our business and processes. The new seed cleaning plant means that customers who require products that contain allergens aren’t being penalised.
“We are very proud to be able to offer our customers the security of knowing that the products they buy from us are cleaned to the highest standard and any risk of cross-contamination has been eliminated.”
Chris Williams, Managing Director of FEG added, “We are proud to have supported Silvery Tweed with this important project, with our engineers delivering at all phases, from design to final installation and commissioning. We worked closely with the UK-leading cereals supplier using an on-site team to ensure a solution that not only sat within timescales and budget but provided an authentic solution to their business challenge.”
