Powering ahead… FEG supports UK Energy from Waste recovery plant
A Cheshire energy recovery facility that required dedicated, bespoke site supervision services during the installation of two M2800 containerised generating sets, has called upon FEG’s specialist expertise to help deliver the project.
CTM Power appointed FEG Global to deliver technical design and engineering services at the Protos Energy from Waste (EfW) Recovery plant – a facility that processes an annual capacity of 400,000 tons of non-recyclable waste that would otherwise go to landfill, with two lines accounting for 200,000 tons each per annum.
Under strict safety measures and meeting all construction, design and maintenance regulations (CDM – 2015), the FEG Global team was tasked with reviewing, recommending and implementing the necessary mechanical works needed to install two new generators to power the site.
Furthermore, due to FEG’s power sector experience, the team also managed all risk assessment elements and oversaw project pipelines and progress reports which had to accommodate multiple engineering activities being carried out at the plant at the same time.
Chris Williams, Managing Director of FEG Global, commented, “CTM Power’s work on the EfW facility uses the latest technologies and highly advanced processes to operate in a very competitive industry and meet (and exceed) strict environmental laws. Reliability of equipment and the site’s power source is therefore critical, so we had to ensure the install and replacement of parts was done quickly, efficiently and with minimal disruption to operations as well as those working there.
“Energy from waste is (and must be) part of the UK’s net zero policy as well as key factor in the wider power sector going forward, and while they often generate a mixed response and contrasting opinion, they are essential to prevent an increasing amount of waste that is non-recyclable going to (and remaining in) landfill. The technologies used to generate energy are extremely innovative, and along with our own technical engineering and design skills, we can help support this part of the power sector to deliver on its ambitions.”
A spokesperson from CTM Power added, “We were pleased to collaborate with FEG on the successful installation of our backup power generation system. Their expertise and proactive support were instrumental in delivering the project on budget and within tight timeframes, while maintaining a strong focus on health and safety and full CDM compliance.”
