Vidula Sarathchandra

Each month we’re introducing you to a member of our expert team. This month is the turn of Project Application Engineer, Vidula Sarathchandra.

What is your background and how did you end up at FEG?

I originally studied and qualified in Mechanical Engineering in my native Sri Lanka at University of Peradeniya, where I then went on to work as a mechanical engineer on a range of projects, including ventilation projects for hotels, apartment blocks, government buildings and factories.

My partner’s work led them to Teesside in 2022 and so I joined and started working with FEG when we made the move to the UK. It was an easy decision – I liked the feel I got from the company and the team from the very first time I met them.

What does a typical work day look like for you?

I thoroughly enjoy the responsibility that comes with working in the collaborative atmosphere of a company like FEG. At the moment I am leading on a key client ventilation project, but I also get the chance to regularly feed in to the team on a variety of other active projects. We really value each other’s opinions and I think this is what adds the difference to the quality of our final output. Whether I am working on design work or direct on site, I can always call upon my colleagues if I need to verify anything or need an additional opinion.

What makes FEG different?

It is a great opportunity to work at a company like FEG. It is large and established enough to see a variety of different project types and sizes, but it has a very personal feel and you are able to make decisions in your daily role while building an overall picture of a project that would not be possible if you were just a small cog in a larger company.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The variety is great and it is personally an additional opportunity for me to build my knowledge of UK process and planning.

I am focused on continuous improvement in both project management and self-development and am able to take additional training opportunities to progress this.

The variety of projects afforded to me at FEG is one of the most exciting aspects of the role. Being able to apply my skills and knowledge in not only specialist ventilation projects but across a wide range of work makes the role extremely fulfilling.
