Akhil Surendran

Each month we’re introducing you to a member of our expert team. This month is the turn of Senior Project Engineer, Akhil Surendran.

What is your background and what was your path to FEG?

I originally studied and qualified in Mechanical Engineering and then Project Management before working in a variety of Project Engineering roles for companies such as Deepak, Quanta and Safex. During these roles I utilised my skills in pipeline instrumentation, project management, quality assurance and technical support.

My move to FEG has allowed to me work across multiple, fast-moving projects, adding value to a number of clients at any one time.

What are the parts you enjoy most about your role?

The genuine team spirit within the company has enabled me to slot perfectly into my role, working collaboratively and asking for support when needed. The management are great here – my ideas are always listened to and I feel very valued in being able to state my opinion about projects and daily processes. The support, transparency and friendliness in the office helps us to stay productive and flexible. I have already been involved in various projects across the pharma, chemical and food industries.

What makes FEG different?

FEG is great in that it allows you to work across multiple clients and projects at any one time. I enjoy being able to bring value to a number of projects and it keeps the work interesting and a new challenge to every day. The people are great too – both internally and the clients we work for.

Where do your specific skills lie?

I have been lucky to work in a number of different industries and engineering disciplines. Some of my key skills cover:

Project conceptualisation work
Project proposal/Capex proposal preparation work
Project costing, Cost control and management.
Different contract finalisation
QAP, Quality checklist preparation work for each of project related activity and quality management
Risk register documentation and risk management
Ordering and delivery of project-related equipment and other accessories
Project planning and project control as per schedule
All kinds of site activity
Safety-related documentation and health and safety management
Effective coordination experience with internal project teams, clients, vendors, contractors etc.
Project status reports, Cost comparison sheets, project forecast reports, project meeting management
Pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover activity with all necessary documentation

I feel a strong sense of teamwork here at FEG that allows for a collaboration and flexibility in our work that is often not found. The passion for client delivery is infectious and it is rewarding being able to contribute to the results we deliver here. I enjoy working in a fast-moving environment but somewhere that I am able to nurture my own personal development too.
